Video: Police fail to show up after man was senselessly attacked

More than one call made to the police.

The police have yet to respond to a resident who was assaulted this past Thursday.

According to the son of Jesse Penton (Snr), also named Jesse, his 64-year-old father arrived back at their home in Disseldoring Street at about 3pm after a shopping excursion. As he pulled into his driveway, two white men pulled up in a blue Ford Fiesta behind him.

He got out of his vehicle to ask them if there was a problem. The two men jumped out of their vehicle and started hitting him. When he fell to the ground, proceeded to kick him.

Neighbours and passersby came to his aid but the two assailants managed to escape. Both the reaction officers of a security company as well as a member of the Community Policing Forum phoned the police from the scene of the incident, but as of Tuesday 19 July there has been no response to their calls.

Jesse (Jnr) said they are perplexed about the motive for the unprovoked attack.

Roodepoort Police spokesperson Nonhlanhla Khumalo has said she will investigate and follow up with the victim.

A woman on Facebook claimed she recognised the vehicle and said she believed the two men are also wanted in connection with a robbery. Anyone with more information can contact the Roodepoort Police Station on 011 279 6400.
