Superhero day for superheroes

ROODEPOORT – Children are the future of the country and they need to be taken care of. Finalist of SA Bachelorette 2016 does just this.

“Poverty is not an accident; it is man-made and can be removed by the actions of human beings.” These famous words by Nelson Mandela accompanied a day inspired by this South African icon.

About 500 children from Kagiso and Sparrow Village came together at the Roodepoort Civic Centre on 16 July for a day of fun. Claudia Palm, SA Bachelorette for 2016, along with members of her church, Hearts to Serve Ministries and 2015 SA Bachelor, Wayne Stafford, organised this event.

The children could not contain their excitement when they saw all the activities planned for them. Four jumping castles were set up and quickly provided the opportunity for children to make new friends. A fire truck was parked in front of the centre, leaving children in awe of this big red vehicle. Florida Police also joined in the celebrations, while teaching the children about safety.

A drummer band, a DJ and hip-hop dance group, Unique, were responsible for the musical entertainment. Well-known superheroes, Batman and Superman also paid a visit. Palm explained that SA Bachelor 2016 focuses on children with cancer, but this day was just branching out from the theme. Many children suffer from Aids and this day was about providing love and support to each one of them.

Stafford added that the competition has adopted the Talk initiative. “T is for tolerance, A is for appreciation, L is for literacy and K is for kindness,” said Stafford.

Jill Alexander of Hearts to Serve Ministries, said that they want Palm to win SA Bachelorette 2016. “She has a heart for children and we are fully behind her,” said Alexander.
