67 treats for lucky animals

RADIOKOP – Resident encourages people to donate essentials for animals in honour of Mandela Day.

A caring resident from Radiokop has opened her heart and decided to be one of the many people that will be doing their part for charity during Mandela Day.

Candice Bishop has a love and passion for animals and therefore decided to take care of the needs of three animal charities. “I initially wanted to donate 67 items and split it up between the three charities, Claw in Durban Deep, Friends of Rescued Animals (FORA) in Krugersdorp and the Randburg SPCA,” said Bishop. She explained that she has, however, had such a good response that she is now collecting 67 of each item for each charity.

Bishop would like people to donate items like dog and cat food, blankets, tinned food, pet toys, dog and cat treats, bowls, leads, collars and cleaning products that the charities need to clean the kennels. “I started about three weeks ago by advertising it on many Facebook pages. I am willing to go to people to collect the donation,” said Bishop. She added that she has already driven 1 300km to get items.

“I even had people donating in Edenvale and Craighall,” said Bishop. She said that she finds people are more willing to donate if they have a deadline like Mandela Day.  “The response, however, has been so good that if I get more people who want to donate then I will have a second distribution date the end of August,” said Bishop.

Bishop said that people always say that their donation is so small, but what they do not realise is that every bit helps and contributes to a bigger total of donated items. “I have two puppies that I rescued after their mother was poisoned. I am bottle feeding them and realised how expensive puppy milk is and that most shelters can’t afford it,” said Bishop.

She would like to thank every person who donated. If you want to donate feel free to contact Bishop.
