Embrace the chaos

"Chaos isn't a pit. Chaos is a ladder" - Peter Baelish

It’s Pandemonium Day and time to throw all the rules out of the window, living care-free for one day.

Pandemonium is defined as wild and noisy disorder and confusion. It is an uproar.

Today is that special day of the year where you’re allowed to forget about your responsibilities and disregard social conventions. Tear up your schedule and live today with reckless abandon. Let loose, dance around like a child, cause a stir if you have to. If you want to wear pink and yellow, do it. If you want vodka over your cereal, have it. If you have a random urge to do something, go for it. Nothing is stopping you (just make sure its legal please). But only for today – that’s the rule.

Pandemonium Day was created to help free people from suffocating in a life that is too ordered. It is especially for those who find themselves in a rut. In other words, it is for those who do the same thing day in and day out without any change or variation. Living in a rut has been described as a road to death paved with regrets.

To break out of this rut, you need a little pandemonium in your life. Some random madness and spontaneous acts will go a long way to bring about great adventures, experiences and memories you can treasure and share your whole life.

Here are three reasons why a little chaos can be good once in a while:

1. Chaos reveals who we really are. In a world without chaos we wouldn’t know how capable or incapable we were of handling difficult situations and situations out of our control. Our true selves emerge in these times of chaos in a way they wouldn’t otherwise.

2. Chaos breeds creativity. Most people are never more creative than when they are unsettled. Creativity needs chaos to thrive. Creativity is about seeking solutions. It’s about finding the beauty and sense where there is none. Also, letting go of the things that hold you back has the effect of freeing your mind to play and come up with weird and wonderful ideas.

3. Chaos makes us clamour for change. Chaos forces us to wake up, look around and care about our lives. It shows us what’s missing, what we need and who we are. Sweet chaos is one of the best ways to separate what’s working for us from what isn’t in our lives, and sometimes even gives us the courage to change.

So how do you celebrate Pandemonium Day? Embrace the chaos and free yourself. Free yourself from preconceptions, expectations, ‘have to’s’ and ‘should’s’. Life was meant to be lived full of joy and exploration. It was not meant to be lived making yourself miserable because of someone else’s plan for you.

Pandemonium Day should be lived as if it’s your last day on earth, so go out there and make it happen.
