Celebrate Mandela Day with Westgate

Come and join in the Madiba Jive

Westgate Shopping Centre will be hosting a heart-warming Mandela Day project this year, in collaboration with the Madiba Jive Team. Since their aim is to create the world’s biggest Madiba Jive, this day should be one to remember.

The centre invites all residents, their friends and family to join them in the inspiring dance aimed at celebrating, unifying and sharing joy throughout South Africa and the world. They encourage participation in the event, and call on people to be part of the 67 Minute Tribute video.

The event will take place on Saturday, 16 July from 10am until noon at Westgate Shopping Centre. All participants should meet at Entrance 2 (Food Lovers Market entrance) at 9.30am. Participants are asked to wear blue jeans with either a branded t-shirt or a plain blue t-shirt.

Donations of old clothing or shoes in a wearable and good condition as well as tinned food, toiletries and blankets will be collected. This is part of the #WestgateCares initiative in which shoppers can drop off donations in boxes situated throughout the centre. These boxes will be a permanent fixture.

Charities that will benefit include the Nelson Mandela Foundation and the We Love Africa Fund

Here is what will happen on the day:

– The Madiba Jive will start at Entrance 2, move through the centre and end in the rooftop parking at Centre Management.

– Participants will then do the dance one more time in a W formation

– Coffee will be available

– Approximately 20 children from a charity will be joining the dance

Join Westgate and bring your friends and family for a pre-Mandela Day celebration.
