For the love of books and reading

WILGEHEUWEL - Dios Los Ninos prepares to open its own school library.

Dios Los Ninos is proud to announce that their school will have its very own library, as of next term.

“Reading is a crucial part of learning and the aim is to create a love for reading,” said principal, Leonie de Kock. As of last term, each pupil had their own library card and were taken to the Strubens Valley library to borrow books. “We also have a series at school as well as our own unique reader set and our pupils – accompanied by a teacher – have reading periods each week,” said De Kock.

Every term, Dios Los Ninos hands out awards to pupils in each schooling phase, who have read the most books that term. The idea behind this initiative is to promote reading in a positive way.

Last term’s winners included:

– Foundation phase (Grade 1): Kean Cloete – 40 books

– Intermediate phase (Grade 6): Nicholas Edwards – 32 books

– Senior phase (Grade 7): Calvin Davies – 23 books

“We are very proud of these pupils; as a reward, they each received a certificate as well as a present,” De Kock added.
