No response to Donovan McDonald’s problems

Complaints about general maintenance and the housing of illegal persons were rife among the residents of the Centre.

All efforts to contact the Department of Housing regarding the situation at the Donovan McDonald Centre have been in vain.

Complaints about general maintenance and the housing of illegal persons were rife among the residents of the Centre. Reports of dirty dustbins, taps and pipes leaking or not working, broken washing machines and driers, broken and missing cupboards, broken toilets, no lighting inside the premises, broken lifts and no hot water (among others) remain unanswered.

Another major concern of the residents was that people live on the premises illegally, and without paying rent. Some are alleged to engage in illegal activities such as theft and vandalism, endangering the residents.

These problems have persisted for months without being addressed.

A woman from the Centre said she had seen electricians and plumbers walking around the premises, but other than her geyser being repaired, there had been no real improvement in the condition of the Centre.
