Warning to domestic workers and their employers

How criminals operate

The police have issued a warning to all domestic workers and their employers concerning a series of house robberies in which domestic workers have been the victims.

Employers are urged to ensure their domestic workers abide by safety precautions, which could minimise or curb these incidents.

How criminals operate:

Criminals commonly attempt to gain entry to houses by pretending to fix lights, pipes etc. Alternatively, they pretend to be delivering medication or mail.

What domestic workers and employers should do:

– Make sure the mailbox is empty at all times. Criminals can be very convincing by knowing the names of the house owners through information they have lifted from mail in the post box.

– Paste a notice on the door reminding domestic workers to check with their employers before allowing anyone onto the premises.

“It is better to prevent these incidents before they occur,” said police spokesperson Captain Mtila-Dikolomela.
