High visibility in Weltevreden Park

WELTEVREDEN PARK - CPF, police, security companies and community work closely with one another in order to combat crime.

On 24 June the Honeydew SAPS  along with the Honeydew CPF, resident’s associations and local security companies in the area did a high visibility operation in the Weltevreden Park area.

Honeydew Police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Karen Jacobs, explained that the operation’s phase one started in the afternoon. During this operation shopping centres and hotspot areas in Weltevreden Park were patrolled on foot and per vehicles. “The first phase was conducted by the SAPS members and officers,” said WO Jacobs.

The second phase started in the evening where the community and local security companies stood parade in the park on the corner of Bergkaree Avenue and JG Strydom Road. “Everyone were divided into two groups. The one group patrolled in Weltevreden Park and at shopping centres and the other conducted a high visibility road block on JG Strydom Road,” said WO Jacobs.

Honeydew Police, station commander, Brigadier Wayne Sirkhout, expressed his appreciation and thanked the Honeydew CPF, community and security companies for their support during this operation. “Honeydew SAPS calls for community involvement and commitment in the battle against crime,” said WO Jacobs.

Honeydew CPF’s public relations officer, Jon Rosenberg, said that the CPF’s logo is ‘Partners in Policing’. He added that this is exactly what the Honeydew CPF is doing on a more pro-active basis than ever before. “We have spoken to children at schools, handed out crime prevention pamphlets and are now assisting at roadblocks as part of an ongoing partnership,” said Rosenberg.

He said that it was decided to host the high visibility operation to engage with the public at various shopping centres and roadblocks. “This is only the beginning and the public will see more of these operations taking place on a regular basis to assist in reducing crime in the area,” said Rosenberg.

He added that they invite all residents in the area to join their resident’s associations to know what is happening in the precinct and then to hopefully join in with the operation in the future. “Together we can make a difference,” he said.

WO Jacobs urged people to report suspicious persons or vehicles in the area to the police or local security companies.
