Update: School concerned about stab victim’s identity

School is appealing for information.

According to Roodepoort Police spokesperson Nonhlanhla Khumalo, the 13-year-old boy who was stabbed nine times yesterday close to Gerrit Maritz Street, is in a stable condition in Leratong Hospital.

It is currently believed that the boy is a pupil at Princess High School. However, the school is struggling to establish the child’s identity because pupils are currently writing exams and not everyone is at school every day. The school’s deputy principal went to the hospital this morning to try to find the boy.

Khumalo said yesterday that a case was not registered at first, because the person who reported the incident said it was an accident and not a stabbing. Because of this, only the Metro Police were dispatched to the scene. By the time they arrived on scene, ER24 paramedics had already taken the boy to hospital.

A case was opened by the police late yesterday, as none of the family has come forward yet.
