Mini master chef shows skill of young chefs

STRUBEN'S VALLEY – Charterhouse pupil wins annual Junior Super Chef Competition.

On one of the coldest days in Johannesburg, Hirsch’s Struben‘s Valley along with Defy hosted their annual Junior Super Chef Competition.

On 13 June children between the ages of eight and 13 years along with their parents, challenged the cold weather and skilfully prepared their various dishes with the mystery basket of ingredients supplied to them. Contestants were given an hour to prepare a main dish utilising the mystery basket ingredients using main colours red, green and yellow.

Four judges from the Chef Shool in Krugersdorp assisted with choosing the winning chef. Judging was based on the following elements: planning, organisation, clean up, variety, preparation, initiative and taste. The head judge mentioned that they used the same criteria as exams in the cooking school. There could be only one winner, that being eight-year-old Maxine Nicolls, a Charterhouse School pupil.
