Two shot during armed robbery

Police looking for five suspects.

Two people were shot early yesterday evening (21 June) when robbers opened fire on G4S security guards who were collecting money at Sunshine Cash & Carry on Van Wyk Street.

According to police spokesperson Warrant Officer Karen Jacobs the incident took place at about 5.20pm. The guard was exiting the Cash & Carry centre when the suspects started shooting wildly. They grabbed the money from the guard and fled in a golden brown Audi A4. Eyewitnesses said there were five suspects armed with handguns and automatic rifles but police are not sure whether a second vehicle was involved. A customer was wounded in the stomach and a taxi driver was hit in the elbow. Both victims were taken to hospital.

At about 7pm the Organised Crime Unit took over the scene.
