Hermanus on target

Maragon Pupil jetting off to England

Hermanus van Staden is beaming with pride after his target-shooting skills booked him a flight overseas. The Maragon Private Schools pupil was selected to represent South Africa at the 24th British Junior International (BJI) Target Shooting Competition. The event will take place in Surrey in August.

Hermanus is one of seven target-shooting athletes from across the country identified by the South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (Sascoc) and approved to participate in the competition.

He is no stranger to high-pressure competitions as he recently also participated in the Gauteng Schools’ Regional Air Rifle Target Shooting Competition. Hermanus excelled among his peers, clinching an overall first position as well as a silver medal in the 3P air rifle precision. He also received a gold for the 10m air rifle precision.
