The African National Congress (ANC) at the weekend announced its mayor candidates for the upcoming local government elections, set for 3 August.

Gwede Mantashe, the ANC’s secretary general, said in a statement that the party is satisfied and confident “that these mayoral candidates presented consists of some of the best comrades among our ranks to advance our programme of radical socio-economic transformation”.

Mantashe asked for the support of all of the party’s structures and communities in support of an “overwhelming” victory for the ANC in the elections.

In January the Democratic Alliance elected Herman Mashaba as the party’s mayoral candidate for CoJ.

The Economic Freedom Fighters have yet to release their candidates for the metropolitan municipalities.
