Residents fed-up and angry about water wastage

RANDPARK RIDGE - Patrys Road becomes a road hazard as water floods down the street for over 16 hours.

An accident that occurred during work done by a communication provider’s contractors had Johannesburg Water fixing a raging pool of water on the corner of Patrys Road and Biskop Place.

Resident, Nicole Andrew, said, “The worker hit the pipe so hard that it broke the pipe and lifted the tar on the road. I confronted the men, and told them this was unacceptable as they were standing around laughing and joking.”

“Joburg Water came on Sunday night (12 June), dug up the road, and fixed the pipe, and Monday night (13 June) another team came to fill the hole, with wet sand, which logic will tell you, you shouldn’t do, and the pipe broke again. All the sand they filled the hole with, is gone and the water gushed out down the road,” Andrew explained. Water ran from the pipe from 6pm on 13 June and was turned off at 10.30am on 14 June.

Andrew is frustrated that it took more than 16 hours to switch off the water. “I begged and pleaded for Joburg Water to please just get someone out to turn the water off,” Andrew added.

Eleanor Mavimbela, external communications officer, confirmed that water had been restored to the area after the necessary repairs were done. “The burst pipe was caused by a contractor who was working in the area laying cables. The pipe was repaired and it leaked again slightly and the minor leak was also fixed. The pipe is no longer leaking. Backfilling was also done,” said Mavimbela.
