At about 10.15am this morning (20 June) a suspected hijacker was arrested in Westgate Shopping Centre’s parking lot.
The suspect and three accomplices allegedly hijacked a vehicle at the corner of Mouton and Ontdekkers Roads 20 minutes earlier. While two Dowry Security vehicles and a Flying Squad vehicle gave chase, they received information that the four suspects, one in the hijacked vehicle and three in a Toyota Quantum had turned into Westgate Shopping Centre’s parking lot.
The security company and police were able to stop the hijacked vehicle and as the driver tried to run away he was caught by the centre’s security guards.
The other three suspects managed to flee in the Quantum.
The arrested suspect has been detained at Roodepoort Police Station and will appear in the Roodepoort Magistrates’ Court soon.
