Dotsure, Wheel Well and Metro Police do it for the kids

Children have the right to be safe.

Dotsure.co.za, Wheel Well and the Metro Police set up a mock roadblock last Wednesday morning to raise awareness about the importance of children in vehicles being buckled in.

In celebration of Youth Day, the two entities, with the cooperation of the Metro Police, set up a high-visibility joint operation outside Ridgevale Primary School. Parents were pulled over as they arrived at the school, and handed a ‘traffic fine’ flyer containing information about legislation related to the safety of children in vehicles. Forty car seats were donated and fitted into the vehicles of families who cannot afford to buy their own.

The law states that all passengers travelling in vehicles have to be buckled up. But 85 per cent of South African children are still travelling unrestrained in vehicles. Vehicle crashes are the leading cause of injury-related deaths of children under five.

“This is something we are striving to change through the Dotsure.co.za Car Seat Safety Cause. Today’s youth are the leaders of tomorrow and should be nurtured and protected,” said David Roache of Dotsure.co.za.

Any residents who have car seats they are no longer using can donate them to Wheel Well this Youth Month by contacting them on 072 385 7121 or 073 393 7356.
