Another BAT van hijacked in Witpoortjie

Abandoned van found in Kenmare

At about 12.15pm today a British American Tobacco (BAT) cigarette van was hijacked in the Witpoortjie Pick n Pay parking lot.

According to a representative of Dowry Security several armed suspects, driving a black BMW and new minibus, overpowered the security officers on the van and took their firearms from them. They then fled in the three vehicles. The abandoned BAT van was found at about 1.30pm in Ivan Smuts Avenue in Kenmare sans the cigarettes.

This is the second BAT van that was hijacked in the close vicinity of the shopping centre. The previous hijacking took place on 9 February in front of a café opposite the shopping centre.
