Taxi driver’s arm severed in accident

10 passengers injured.

Eleven people were injured in a collision between a taxi and a truck early yesterday evening (9 June).

The collision occurred at the intersection of Main Reef Road and Granville Avenue in Robertville. The truck’s brakes allegedly failed, which caused it to collide with the taxi head-on.

ER24 paramedics at the scene found that the driver of the taxi had sustained critical injuries, including a severed arm. He was treated and rushed to hospital for further assessment.

Over and above the taxi driver, 10 other people sustained injuries ranging from minor to moderate. ER24 treated and transported two patients to Helen Joseph Hospital for further treatment. The remaining patients were treated and transported by other medical services on scene.

Traffic in the area was affected heavily. The cause of this incident is still unknown, but local authorities were on scene for further investigations.
