Bastion alumni bring pride to school

Bastion proud of its former charges

Witpoortjie — Another school that is proud to have its alumni flying the school’s flag high is Hoërskool Bastion.

Three of their pupils and a staff member have received recognition on the national stage.

Rudy Paige has been chosen to be part of the South African national rugby team that will take on Ireland.

Paige is currently playing for the Blue Bulls. His usual position is scrum-half.

He played for SWD Eagles at various youth tournaments, but moved to the Xerox Golden Lions in 2007.

Lindie Lombard, who has represented the country on various netball courts around the world, has once again been selected to be part of the Spar Proteas netball practice team. The team will participate in the Spar Challenge international netball series against Wales in Durban later this month.

Lindie has represented teams such as Tuks, the Jaguars and Gauteng North in the past.

Another familiar face in the national team is Dorette Badenhorst, a former staff member of Bastion. She is currently coaching the North West Flames, and has been chosen to be part of the team’s coaching staff.
