Application for special votes open

Residents who will be burdened on Election Day advised to apply.

The window period to apply for a special vote for the Municipal Elections is now open.

Special votes may be cast on Monday 1 August and Tuesday 2 August at the voting station. Where warranted, the IEC will do home visits. Special votes are there to assist with the burden that certain categories of people will experience on voting day. Please make use of this facility.

The following persons can apply for a special vote:

1. People who will be working on Election Day, such as police and nurses.

2. Elderly people who find it difficult to stand for long periods of time.

3. People with a disability who will find logistics on voting day difficult.

4. Couples who are pregnant.

5. People who are immobile due to illness.

6. People who will be away on business on voting day 3 August.

You can apply for a special vote at any IEC office.

Please note: Only registered voters meeting all the requirements will qualify for a special vote. The window period is from 10 June to 8 July 2016.
