Overwhelming response to appeal

I was totally overwhelmed and never experienced or expected such a response from the community

“In just a few short weeks, the Record’s Have a Heart project achieved more success than anyone ever could imagine.”

These are the words of the chairman of the Have a Heart Care Centre in Roodepoort CBD, Marius Oelofse.

“On behalf of the committee and myself, we wish to thank the Roodepoort Record for placing the Care Centre on the map, so to speak, by helping the elderly in need. A special thanks goes to the Editor, Roelien Vorster and her journalist, Mathilde Myburgh who clearly have a passion for the elderly and applied their professionalism to all the articles they wrote. They have become part of the family.”

Marius said he would also like to thank all the donors for their generous contributions in difficult financial times. “I was totally overwhelmed and never experienced or expected such a response from the community.

“I know many private donors wish to remain anonymous and I respect their wishes; however, I have to mention a few people who came and helped to make a difference at the centre. We also received food, clothes and cleaning materials. Without so much generosity from the community this would have not been possible. A special thanks goes to Classic Climate for organising a project to install electrical fittings and connections on a Saturday; Swannies Plumbing for installing geysers and doing general plumbing work; Plumbers Market for the fittings, and Atie Painters for sponsoring paint and painting the entire inside of the centre.”

Marius also said he has not en never will forget the individuals who so generously donated some of their goods. “Although the list is very long, please accept this thank you from the bottom of my heart. May you be blessed in so many ways. Thank you.”

Marius said he is still collecting goods from the community. “If we haven’t reached you yet, please be patient,” he said.

According to Marius the residents who have already moved in are comfortable, sleep in warm beds and have food to eat.
