Mason and Tanith are no pawns

CKPS pupils compete in chess champs

Constantia Kloof Primary School’s Mason Rametse and Tanith John recently participated in the Roodepoort Individual Chess Championship.

Mason finished in third position in the boys U/13 division while Tanith was second in the girls U/11 division.

Their results saw the two pupils qualifying to compete at the Gauteng Top Schools Championship in Pretoria earlier this month (13 May).

The school is no stranger to excelling at the Pretoria chess competition as they have reached the top 20 on numerous occasions.

Their coach Mona Coombs was proud of her pupils and is expecting them to be even more competitive in the upcoming chess competitions.

“The competition was tough but Mason and Tanith gained valuable experience which will benefit them during the season. We wish them all of the best,” she said.
