Arola Cycle Tour gives back

Their aim is to team up with the Bible Society of South Africa to raise funds for Bible distribution

The Arola Cycle Tour cyclists put down their bikes and braved the cold and wet conditions to visit the Florida Fire Brigade. This was a way for the cyclists to show their appreciation for the fire station and other services such as CycleSure, ARS Medical services and JMPD who have helped them during the tour.

The Florida station has been involved with the Tour since its start in 2013, providing safety for the cyclists on route.

In February this year, 21 cyclists and a support team took part in the Arola Cycle Tour from Johannesburg to Bloemfontein.

These cyclists road 483 kilometres as part of the initiative started by Mosaiek community three years ago.

Their aim is to team up with the Bible Society of South Africa to raise funds for Bible distribution.

“Our aim has always been to extend our impact past the three tour days by getting involved in social responsibility projects, giving back to the community. The cycle tour wouldn’t have taken place without their help as they’ve been assisting us on the road each year,” said Arola PRO Lizette Driescher.

Working together with the Florida station, a need for urgent upgrades and maintenance was seen by the Arola cyclists.

From the control room to the waiting room, basic kitchen equipment, furniture, and painting was needed.

Armed with paint brushes, tools, overalls and scrapers, the cyclists and their family and friends headed into the station to make a difference.

Cyclists and volunteers with the help of Antioch and Mosaiek provided new chairs and lounge sets, a television, kitchen equipment, paint, flooring, a sliding door.

They fixed electrical connections many more.

Driescher said they will stay involved with the Florida Fire Brigade and plan to further assist where there is a need.

“In doing this, we hope to bring some comfort and joy to the brave men and women keeping our families safe everyday. We would like to thank Bodvest Waltons, Kolok, Stuart TV’s and Phase3Design,” she she said.
