JPC’s developments add to the value of the City

The City of Joburg entity, Johannesburg Property Company’s (JPC) developments are meant to create and capture the value of the City.

Alan Dinnie, JPC senior manager of property development, took members of the media on a tour of the City’s various developments on 18 May.

Journalists got a glimpse of what the company is doing to improve the state of the city.

The tour went from Bara Central in Soweto, to 27Boxes in Melville, the Johannesburg Holocaust and Genocide Centre, and the onto the last stop – Newtown Junction.

Zone 6 Entertainment Club, shopping centre, Public Park and Diepkloof International Hotel are some of the spaces developed by the City with the emerging private property developer.

“Obviously, we try to preserve our relationship with informal traders and this centre has accommodated those traders,” said Dinnie.

This development in Soweto is ongoing and was initially started in March 2011. It accommodates upcoming entrepreneurs and Small Medium Micro Enterprises (SMMEs).

“Transformation in the property industry is one of the City’s objectives. So most of our developers are emerging SMMEs, we also target them during construction, job creation and enterprise development,” he continued.

Old Faan Smit Park, which residents previously complained about vagrancy, was developed to a trendy retail shopping centre, 27Boxes, with the feel of the community.

The centre was built using shipping containers. JPC facilitated this trendy development which commenced construction on 1 October 2014 and was officially opened in July 2015.

The Johannesburg Holocaust and Genocide Museum is located in Forest Town on Jan Smuts Avenue. This facility was built to commemorate the victims and survivors of the Holocaust and genocide.

This building commemorates the suffering of the people of Rwanda, the Jewish community and other victims who suffer the similar fates.

Newtown Junction development was facilitated by JPC in Newtown precinct. This is a modern mixed-use development that comprises of retail shops, offices, a hotel and restaurants in three building that transformed the cultural precinct into a modern commercial hub.
