Update: Golf gang is on a spree

They attempted to steal a vehicle in Witpoortjie

It has been confirmed that the vehicle thieves chased by a Caxton journalist and a street vendor yesterday are armed and dangerous, and that they’ve been on a crime spree for months.

About half an hour after attempting to steal a vehicle in Witpoortjie, the three suspects attempted a robbery in Krugersdorp, but fled after being spotted by CPF patrollers. The Krugersdorp and Maraisburg CPFs have confirmed that the same vehicle has been involved in a number of crimes for more than three months.

Be on the lookout for this Golf

The Record was able to establish that the vehicle is not stolen and is registered in the name of a resident of Zola in Soweto. A member of the crime-fighting community who does not want to be named explained that the criminals legitimately buy vehicles but do not ‘do the change of ownership’.

Residents should not confront the suspects – they should rather contact their local CPF or closest police station if they spot the thieves. The blue Golf’s registration is DY 87 FP GP.
