Fallen biker’s friend remembers him

"We were like brothers"

Warren Tucker, a member of West Side Riders Motorcycle Club (WSRMC), spoke to the Record about his friend Noel Jacobs who passed away in an accident on 8 May.

“Noel and I, as his wife Crissy put it, were more than brothers. We grew up together and were always close. Our mutual love of anything with an engine always kept us talking,” said Warren.

“Noel was always telling me about the cars he was working on after school. I am thankful that he became a mechanic. He absolutely loved what he did. He was a very technically minded person and would always take the time to explain a concept to you, no matter how many times you asked him. Everyone who met Noel quickly realised he had fuel flowing through his veins. He was an avid ‘petrol head’.

“I recall one of his epic road trips when he and a friend were given a trailer, church vehicle and a petrol card. They were to take CDs to a venue in Cape Town. He ended up going there via Namibia and came back with stories of sleeping under the stars and picking up hitchhikers. He loved meeting and talking to people.

Horror accident leaver motorcyclist dead

“On our first Sunday breakfast run to Muldersdrift, just after he got his bike, he was riding behind me when my bike’s exhaust came off and hit him. This road would become a favourite of ours and he always joked by asking me to ride at the back to prevent any of my bike’s debris from hitting him.

“When Noel found out he was going to become a dad, he was so excited that he blew his bike’s engine on his way to the club to tell us,” said Warren.

Warren concluded by saying the much-loved Noel would be sorely missed by his family, friends and his fellow club members
