Photos: Suspect who poisoned 40 dogs arrested

Suspect eluded security company for three weeks.

A suspect who is believed to be connected to 40 dog poisonings has been arrested by DMS Security early Sunday morning.

The suspect poisoned dogs in order to steal mag wheels and car radios from properties in the Roodekrans and Helderkruin areas. According to Ivan Shaw of DMS Security they gathered information and investigated the poisonings over a three-month period. It paid off at around 4am on Sunday after officers had waited in the rain and cold to pounce on the elusive suspect. He was arrested on CR Swart Road close to Pick n Pay. Neighbourhood watch patrollers assisted the security officers.

Shaw said he believes the suspect is part of a syndicate.

“The perpetrator was responsible for the sadness of many residents. I have been on countless crime scenes where I had to witness people being devastated by the cruel poisoning of their pets. Many people do not have children or children in the home anymore, and their pets are their children,” said Shaw.
