Increases in visibility at crime hotspots

WELTEVREDEN PARK – Security companies, Honeydew SAPS and CPF combine their powers to target house break-ins in the Weltevreden Park area.

A high visibility operation between the Honeydew SAPS, Honeydew Community Policing Forum (CPF) and security companies in the area took place in Weltevreden Park on 13 May.

According to Honeydew CPF public relations officer, Jon Rosenberg, this initiative was started a few years ago by Greg Pierce from the CSS (Community Support Service) who is also a member of the CPF. It was Pierce’s idea to get the security companies to work together to fight crime. “We have a WhatsApp group and when something happens, everybody responds,” said Rosenberg.

Honeydew CPF public relations officer, Jon Rosenberg and Honeydew SAPS station commander, Brigadier Wayne Sirkhout thank all involved in the operation.

Honeydew Police Station Commander, Brigadier Wayne Sirkhout, said that the operation took place after an increase in house break-ins in Weltevreden Park. “The house break-ins is a real issue because there are so many entrance and access routes in Weltevreden Park,” said Brig Sirkhout. He added that they needed to combine the efforts of the police and security companies to maximise visibility in the area.

“We as the CPF, would like to thank the police and all the security companies that took part including Busicor Security, Gauteng Security, Londoloza Protection Group, EC Security Services and Beagle Watch for taking part in this initiative,” According to Honeydew Police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Karen Jacobs, the operation consisted of saturation patrols and stop and search procedures.
