INFOGRAPHIC: Tips on how to protect your car in winter

JOBURG – Learn how to protect your car during the frosting hours of winter.

As motorists in Joburg feel the decrease in temperatures and see the frost creep onto their cars, we decided to show you how to protect your car from harsh winter conditions.

According to the Automobile Association (AA), there are four main components: batteries, lights, tyres, windscreens and wipers that can be protected and checked to help your precious asset run better during colder conditions.

Batteries tend to give more problems during winter because of the increased amps drawn by the starter to crank the cold engine.

Always ensure your tyres are in a good condition, and not worn down. Worn tyres are extremely dangerous in all conditions, but this danger can be multiplied in wet, snowy, and icy conditions.

As the days get shorter, and the nights get longer, many motorists will leave for work in the morning while it is still dark outside and they will need to use the car’s headlights.

It’s important to check the condition of your wiper blades and replace them if needed, and avoid cleaning mud and soil from the windscreen with the wipers as this can scratch the glass.
