Video: Motorcycle thieves caught on camera

Motorcycle thefts now reaching epidemic preportians.

CCTV camera footage of Monday’s motorcycle theft in Rutter Street in Witpoortjie has surfaced.

It is believed the thieves had broken through a perimeter wall, after which they pushed the bikes from the owner’s premises to one close by. Another Witpoortjie resident whose motorcycle was stolen recently believes he saw the gang. On 30 April, at around 7pm he noticed a black Volvo V40, which had blue body putty on the side, stopping in front of his neighbours’ house.

The occupants allegedly tried to access his neighbours’ garage in which they kept motorcycles only. The suspects fled when he ran towards them holding a revolver. According to him the gang consisted of two white and three black suspects. The resident also claimed he knew of at least 15 motorcycle thefts in Krugersdorp recently. The tracking system on one of the stolen motorcycles showed that two days after the theft the motorcycle had entered Mozambique.

According to West Suburbs Roodepoort Neighbourhood Watch (WSRNW) about four motorcycles are stolen in the area every week.
