“I believe it takes dedication and hard work to be a skater. A gold medal is not won but is earned. I was so shocked when I found out that I had qualified to represent Gauteng in the National Championships. I initially thought that I did not qualify, then I was informed a week later that I actually made it.

“I have been working with two coaches for the past two years, I also have a good relationship with my team members and we always support each other when we compete,” said Tanith.

She added that she has received great support from her parents in everything that she does. Even when she does not do well, they still encourage and support her. Her mother, Linda Bussac, takes her to classes at 5am almost every Saturday morning at the Northgate skating rink. Tanith practices before the rink is open to the public, twice a week to perfect here technique.

Bussac said that Tanith is very passionate about skating and works hard. “She is so brilliant at what she does, her ultimate dream is to participate in the Olympics. I will do anything I can to help her reach her dream,” she explained.

She added that they would be so grateful if someone is willing to sponsor Tanith’s trip to Cape Town, for her first National Championship.
