Beyl family: Daughter recovering from surgery

The aftermath of an accident on Ontdekkers Road continues to unfold.

The Beyl daughter, Monique, 7, is in recovery after undergoing surgery following the family’s horror accident on Ontdekkers Road two weeks ago.

On Friday night 29 April husband Egbert, 28, and the children were making their way to Westgate Shopping Centre to collect wife Lindie, 27, from work, when an allegedly speeding blue Volkswagen Beetle caused a collision involving five vehicles on Ontdekkers Road, theirs included. Egbert sustained moderate head injuries while Monique broke the femur (upper leg) and little brother Ruben, 5, got away with a few bruises and scratches.

Help the Beyl family

Both Egbert and Monique were treated in Leratong Hospital from which both were discharged last week. Egbert’s head wound became infected and he has since been on a series of antibiotics to treat the infection before receiving stitches. Monique was laying in traction since being admitted a week prior and had to have a stent inserted during an operation last week.

Lindie told the Record this morning (Tuesday 10 May) that the operation on her daughter’s leg was a success.

“She spent around an hour and a half in theater and the stent insertion was successful,” she confirmed.

“She was discharged on Saturday and her leg, from top to bottom is in plaster.”

Monique will be recovering at home for the next few weeks. In the mean time, Egbert’s head wound is healing well and the swelling has gone down, Lindie said.
