A man was killed and several others injured when a truck overturned on Fairway Road in Ruimsig last night (3 May).
Shortly after 6pm paramedics found a man lying next to the truck. The truck was standing on its wheels. Bystanders explained that moments after the truck had overturned and they realised someone was pinned underneath it, several people on the scene as well as some of the injured lifted the truck back onto its wheels. Sadly, there was nothing paramedics could do to save the victim and he was declared dead on the scene.
Nineteen others had sustained minor to moderate injuries. It is believed that most of the injured were sitting in the back of the truck and others in the front passenger compartment.
The exact cause of the incident is not yet known; however, it is believed the truck driver had lost control of the vehicle when he went around a bend in the road. Johannesburg Metro Police attended the scene and will conduct an investigation.
