Local MC president in serious accident

Couple can not remember what happened.

The local motorcycle fraternity was shocked by the news that Wicked Wheels Motorcycle Club (MC) President Neels Jonker, 59, and his wife Mariette, 55, had been involved in an accident.

On Monday the couple was returning from a weekend away with the club in Margate, when the accident took place at the corner of Anstruther Street and Honeyball Avenue. According to Mariette their motorcycle had crashed into a vehicle, but neither one of them has any recollection of the exact circumstances of the accident.

“I think we can not remember due to the trauma,” she said.

Neels is currently in the intensive care unit (ICU) at Netcare Milpark Hospital. He broke his arm in such a way that the bone was protruding and was operated on in the early morning hours of Tuesday. According to the orthopaedic surgeon his arm “will never be the same again” since a “piece of the bone is gone”, said Mariette. He also has a broken pelvis and will need at least four weeks’ bed rest to heal.

Mariette only sustained scratches but said her body was aching and she had trouble walking. “I think an angel had wrapped his arms around us. It could have been worse,” said Mariette.

Wicked Wheels MC is well known for their charity work.
