At least five injured on Ontdekkers last night

Allegedly speeding VW Beetle caused havoc and trauma on Ontdekkers Road on Friday night.

At least five people were injured and five vehicles damaged in an accident on Ontdekkers Road opposite Sterlig Kwekery last night.

The collision occurred just before 7pm. According to eye witnesses who belong to the Roodepoort Network Community on facebook; an allegedly speeding blue VW Beetle travelled towards Krugersdorp on Ontdekkers Road, crashing into a vehicle, damaging another and then crashing over the embankment, colliding with another two vehicles in oncoming traffic. Traffic came to a standstill as members of a block watch and ER 24 paramedics cordoned off the road, redirected traffic and assisted the injured.

As far as facebook reports go, a man and his two children were worse for wear. They’ve been identified by Roodepoort Network Community members as Egbert, the father, and Ruben, 5 and Monique Beyl, 6. It is understood they live in Randfontein and were travelling to collect the mother from her workplace. It is also understood Egbert sustained head injuries and Monique broke a leg and they were treated for it at Leratong Hospital.

The driver and passenger of the blue VW Beetle were allegedly drunk, and it is understood that during the multiple vehicle collision they were both flung from the vehicle. Their medical status, as well as the validity of of the drunk driving claims, remain unclear.

The Record contacted ER24 to confirm injuries and is awaiting a statement.

Many residents on facebook are concerned about the health and safety of the Beyl family. The wife’s employer, Marinda van den Berg is looking to do fundraising for them, both to acquire a vehicle and to explore the possibility of a third party claim. She has an appointment with the Record on Tuesday, 3 May.
