Go-Cart Day at Die Ruiter

Laerskool Die Ruiter was a buzz of activity as the school hosted its annual Go-Cart Day.

This is the fifth consecutive year the school has organized such an event for its pupils and Hugo van As, project manager of the school said the event is getting bigger and bigger each year.

“Today the focus is for the children to have as much fun as possible and get to know each other a bit better. Juniors and seniors usually play on different fields so they never see each other so today is different,” he said.

Another goal for the school is to raise funds. The school does this by doing their own version of a raffle collection.

Pupils are given a list with a car drawn on it.

The car has blocks with a certain amount inside which need to be coloured. As each block is paid for, they are allowed to colour in the block and the best looking car will be chosen from the entire school’s list.

The money made from the day all goes towards the school.

The school also held a grade 7 entrepreneurial day where they set up stalls and all their items were sold out within minutes.

The success of the Go-Cart Day follows the success of last months Family Day. For the first time, the school held the event on a Saturday.

“We always want the parents to be involved in their children’s school activities. However, we understand they have work commitments they can’t get away from. So we decided to have the Family Day on a Saturday and it was a resounding success. Now we are looking to have more school activities on a weekend to have the parents are with their children,” said Van As.
