Florida Police is concerned that a serial rapist, as well as a gang of robbers who rape their female victims, might be on the loose.
Since the start of March the police station has noticed a spike in the number of rape cases being reported. They believe a rapist is targeting women in the Fleurhof area. He allegedly uses a knife to threaten his victims and commits his crimes at all hours of the day.
Police also warned women to be careful of a Quantum mini bus with two to three male occupants who operate along Albertina Sisulu Road. The men rob and rape their unsuspecting female victims who believe they are boarding a normal taxi.
Police patrols have been intensified around these areas.
Police have issued the following preventative tips:
• Try to walk in groups.
• Be aware of strangers on your way and be alert.
• Keep a distance from strangers.
• When you suspect an imminent attack, scream for help or blow a whistle.
• Avoid walking alone at night.
• Avoid waiting for transport or walking alone in an isolated area.
