Police officers become donors

STRUBEN'S VALLEY – A community crime campaign boosted the numbers at Clearwater Mall.

Clearwater Mall hosted a crime awareness campaign with displays by the police and other local entities.

Honeydew Police, ER24, Honeydew CPF as well as Roodepoort Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Rocci) came together as one to meet the community on 23 April. Children had a great time having their fingerprints taken for a profile on Childline as well as getting to sit in a real police vehicle. A few lucky children even got to flash the lights and make the sirens wail.

The South African National Blood Service was greeted by dozens of people willing to donate blood. The brave men and women of the police also donated blood.

Honeydew CPF public relations officer Jon Rosenberg said, “It was a day to touch base with the community and to invite children and adults alike to meet the faces that protect them on a daily basis.”

Rocci and ER24 also displayed their talents to the community and encouraged their members to donate blood. Honeydew Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Karen Jacobs said, “It is important to meet the community and share valuable information that can keep them safe.”
