Laerskool Helderkruin turns 30

Laerskool Helderkruin celebrated 30 years

Denim and bandanas were the theme as Laerskool Helderkruin celebrated 30 years on Friday (22 April).

The birthday celebrations were held at the school’s field where it was decorated with haystacks and picnic tables.

Former teachers and pupils had a chance to reminisce at the event where parents and current pupils were entertained all night.

From jumping castles and clowns to face painting and photo booths, pupils were catered for.

Parents were not left out as RSG radio station’s Ettienne Ludick led the proceedings as the master of ceremonies while musician Alexander Venter owned the stage with his music.

There were Daddy dance-offs and prizes given away for various fun activities.

The schools spokesperson Hanli-Mari Olivier said the entrance fee for the event was free as the day was about celebrating the school.

“Although the school was not open on this day as it was opened in January 1986, we chose today to celebrate it. It’s a family event so parents will bring their camp chairs and have a picnic. Fire is supplied to those who wish to braai and there is endless entertainment for the children. Today would not have been possible without the help from Chas Everitt and Louw and Heyl Attorneys,” she said.

The school’s principal was beaming with pride at the celebrations and spoke about some of the changes the school had gone through during its 30 years.

“We are blessed the school has reached such a milestone. Although we are a privileged school, hard work and good fortune has allowed the school to reach 30 years. When the school was opened, there were 300 pupils with 14 members of staff and this year we are standing at 1164 pupils and 82 staff members. However, if we want the school to reach another 30 years we have to meet the challenges facing the education system and adapt,” he said.
