Here’s the proposed electricity tariff hikes

Councillor Suzanne Clarke is urging residents to participate in the public comment on rates increase proposals.

City Power earlier in April published their tariff hike proposals on the City of Johannesburg website.

In it, the following tariff hikes were proposed for domestic users; that is to say electricity supply to private houses, dwelling units, flats, boarding houses and hostels, residences and homes run by charitable institutions and premises for public worship as well as caravan parks.

The Record highlighted the proposed increases in terms of prepaid electricity, seasonal domestic one-phase and three-phase segments and one-phase and three-phase three-part flat rates.

Domestic customers who are registered for the expanded social package (of 150kWh per month) will still qualify for the conventional lifeline tariff, unless they consume more than 500kWh per month, in which case prepaid rates will apply.

In their proposal, the entity added, “Everyone will be expected to take part in any of the City of Johannesburg’s energy saving initiatives.”
