Thieves’ bad driving leads to their arrest

Suspects caught in the act.

Yesterday at around 9am detective Sergeant Quintin Rennie and detective Constable Julian White were driving in an unmarked vehicle going about their investigating duties, when two males in a silver VW Polo nearly hit them head-on.

Although suspicious, they ignored the incident but when driving down Rail Street they noticed the same vehicle parked in the street with the two suspects loading electronic equipment into it. They made a U-turn, stopped and after introducing themselves as police officers they ordered the two men to lie on the ground while they searched the property. They found that the front gate had been forced open and the doors damaged to gain access to the house. On searching the vehicle they found computer equipment, a digital camera and housebreaking equipment. It was also established that the suspects’ vehicle had fake registration plates.

The two suspects, aged 27 and 35 were arrested for housebreaking and theft, possession of suspected stolen property, possession of suspected stolen motor vehicle and possession of housebreaking implements.

They will appear in the Roodepoort Magistrates’ Court soon.
