Avoid! Chaos erupts around Zandspruit

Protest turns violent.

What was supposed to be a peaceful protest in Zandspruit, has turned violent.

According to Honeydew Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Karen Jacobs the situation is volatile as around 8 000 residents of the informal settlement are making their way to Honeydew Police Station. The residents are protesting the fact that the informal settlement has no electricity.

“People should avoid Beyers Naudé Drive, Marina Street and Peter Road at all costs. It is chaotic,” said Jacobs.

Reports have been coming in that the protesters are obstructing the roads with burning tyres and are pelting vehicles with rocks.
