Cupcakes for Hope day

RUIMSIG – Children have a fun day making cupcakes to raise funds for CANSA.

Opti-Baby and Kids Ruimsig hosted a Cupcakes for Hope day, in order to raise awareness for cancer.

Opti-Baby and Kids Ruimsig manager Lizelle ‘t Lam said that the event was hosted on 1 April, where all pupils took part in decorating cupcakes. Each of the children contributed a small donation towards the Cancer Association of South Africa (Cansa). This was the first time the daycare centre hosted an event of this nature.

“We are proud to be associated with a cause just like this. As part of the community we feel it is important to create awareness as well as donate where possible, to different kinds of causes and organisations as much as we are able to. Creating awareness and a sense of giving in spite of how small it is, makes the children realise the importance of caring and giving to those who are less fortunate,” explained ‘t Lam.

She added that the pupils also received a Cansa pamphlet about early childhood cancer. A small donation was given to Cansa as contributions from the children.

“The children and their parents were happy to participate and enjoyed themselves. Every month we host special events. For Mother’s Day, the children will make special packages for their mothers, on 20 May we will be testing children’s hearing done by an audiologist and part of People who Protect Us week, the fire department and the ambulance will visit us at the end of May,” described ‘t Lam.

She said that there will be another opportunity to do a similar fundraising activity during Cancer Awareness month in September.

Opti-Baby and Kids Ruimsig challenged all schools in the area to participate and donate to such a worthy cause.
