Guards shoot and kill suspect

HONEYDEW – One of two suspects who were allegedly terrorising the suburbs in Honeydew, was shot dead in a shootout with security guards.

A suspect was shot dead during a shootout with Londoloza Protection Group members on the evening of 13 April.

The shootout occurred in Alsef between guards and two suspects who were allegedly terrorising suburbs in Honeydew.

Nick Frost from Londoloza said there were two suspects and one of them got away. “Our staff went to pre-determined points that we knew to be escape routes and waited for the suspects, one suspect was spotted and shots were exchanged between our TRT members and suspects resulting in the suspect being killed,” he explained.

He further explained that prior to the shootout, the suspects allegedly robbed a woman at gunpoint in her house and assaulted her. “She was taken to hospital in a stable condition with tissue injuries to her head,” he said.

According to Londoloza Facebook Page, this incident occurred after many months of planning and countless hours spent in the bushes.

Honeydew Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Karen Jacobs explained that the incident occurred at around 9pm when the victim and her friend arrived at the townhouse.

“As they were entering the premises they were confronted by two armed men. The men demanded their property and also assaulted the complainant with the firearm,” she explained.

She further indicated that the suspects fled the scene. “The security company was alerted and their reaction officers arrived. They started a search and the suspects then allegedly fired at the reaction officers who then returned fire,” she continued.

“An unlicensed firearm was found in possession of the suspect. We are investigating to see if the slain suspect can be linked to other incidents in the Honeydew Police precinct,” she indicated.

Jacobs confirmed that Honeydew Police experienced an increase in robberies at residential premises during the end of last year.

“A case of armed robbery and possession of unlicensed firearm was opened at Honeydew Police station. Suspects normally attack residents who are arriving from work or who are at the house with doors and windows open,” she concluded.
