On Saturday evening a Matholliesville resident was robbed after being hit over the head with a cold drink bottle.
Around 8pm the victim was approached by the suspect who asked him for R5. The victim told him he does not have any money and the suspect attempted to search him. A scuffle broke out and the robber hit the man in the face with a cold drink bottle. He fled with the man’s cell phone, cash and passport.
Members of the community who were on the scene called the police. Using the information the community gave them, they managed to arrest the suspect who was hiding in a shack.
The suspect was detained at Roodepoort Police Station and will appear in court soon.
