Robbers outwitted by security company’s quick action
Ammunition found in getaway vehicle.
On Wednesday at around 5.30pm three robbers met their match and was arrested before they could commit their crime.
The suspects parked their vehicle next to Doreen Road at the CR Swart Road intersection, lifted up the hood and pretended they have vehicle trouble. Two of them went into the veld to the back of a house in Karnelian Street and attempted to break in when a neighbour saw what was happening. A third, the getaway driver stayed with the vehicle.
The neighbour immediately phoned DMS Security who was in the area and they responded. When the two robbers in the veld saw the security company they tried to flee but was caught. It is believed that they threw their firearm away before getting caught. The third suspect was also arrested.
The K9-unit was called in to find the weapon but without success.
In the vehicle, which was stolen, the police found 40 9mm rounds, 12 10mm hollow point rounds and a toy gun.
The suspects were detained at Roodepoort Police Station.
