Trees pruned in two ticks

Resident impressed with quick response after previous service delivery failure.

A resident is all-smiles after Johannesburg City Parks responded to his urgent request.

A hopeless Fanie Kleynhans eventually approached the Record last week, after several failed attempts to get the department to respond to his request. He complained about the state of the trees outside Benmar Villas in Canary Street, which has started affecting traffic. The branches had grown very long and were obscuring traffic on the roadway. He said the department had started pruning them in September and October last year but stopped due to bad weather.

“They simply never returned to finish the job, and I’ve been trying to log a call ever since,” he said.

City Parks spokesperson Jenny Moodley received his request and treated it with urgency. A team was subsequently sent out on 4 April and pruning began at around 9am. By 2.45pm the sidewalks were stacked with pruned branches, ready to be taken away.

“I was very impressed to see the trees pruned within hours of their arrival; a truck arrived to take the branches away within an hour of the pruning being done and the team did some additional cleaning,” Kleynhans told the Record afterwards.

“A sincere thank you to the municipality and the newspaper for your promptness.”
