Get ready for Wednesday 3 August

Residents have their final opportunity to register for the coming local municipal elections.

Wednesday 3 August promises to be a pivotal day for the City of Johannesburg as the future of its political leadership will be decided upon by residents.

Yesterday (Wednesday 6 April) the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) finally confirmed the date as official municipal election day. With this in mind, political parties locally are hard at work making sure residents are registered for the important day.

The final registration weekend for the coming municipal elections is this weekend, Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 April, from 8am til 5pm on both days. In a press statement the IEC stressed the importance of the opportunity to students, migrant workers and residents who otherwise commute between two residences throughout the year, to get matters in order for voting day.

Eligible voters can over the weekend register to vote or update their registration details at their nearest voting station. An eligible voter is 18 years of age or older and has a valid, South African ID booklet or smart ID card or temporary ID certificate. Residents can only vote in the district in which they live and at the voting station at which they’ve registered.

The IEC recommends visiting their map on maps.elections.org.za/vsfinder/ and submitting your exact street address in order to identify your correct voting station and get further details.

Should residents miss this opportunity, they can still call 011 761 0271 and make an appointment to visit the local IEC office at the Civic Centre, 100 Christiaan de Wet Road for registration.
