Crime campaign hits the streets

HONEYDEW – Mass crime awareness on theft of vehicles and theft out of vehicles.

SAPS in conjunction with Honeydew CPF and local security companies drove a massive crime awareness campaign at various intersections in the Honeydew sector.

Dozens of security and SAPS vehicles were seen at intersections such as Cascades and Hendrick Potgeiter roads, Fredenharry Road and the Clearwater Mall/Makro intersection.

Each officer or volunteer was armed with a pack of pamphlets to hand to the motorists on 6 April. The pamphlets entailed detailed tips and information pertaining to crime prevention especially in regards to theft out of vehicles and theft of vehicles, also break-ins at residential homes.Today’s campaign is one of many they have done in the area to promote proactive safety against crime in the community.

Honeydew SAPS Warrant Officer Martin Kruger said, “We need to constantly keep the public aware of popular crimes in the area.” He explained that by inviting scores of security companies to participate, the public sit up and pay attention.

“This crime-awareness campaign focused on security companies working together in the Honeydew sectors as well as distribution of vital information.”

Honeydew CPF public relations officer Jon Rosenburg added, “We are specifically talking to people and handing out pamphlets at shopping centres and gyms in an effort to reduce theft out of vehicles.”
